A Little View of the World

Universities and more generally students have frequently been the source of social unrest; often being the first to protest and amongst the most politically engaged in the country. This mix of academics and student, all debating the decisions of the government and the wider world, often produces the most vocal of protests and many nations worldwide have been forced to react. However very rarely do reactions extend to the measures undertaken by the Sri Lankan government this week.

In the wake of strikes by academics, that have lasted over two months, and student protests earlier in the year, the government has taken the decision to close nearly all of the countries universities for the foreseeable future.
